Created in collaboration with long-established doll maker Yoshitoku, Sakura is dressed in an elegant, light colored kimono featuring gold brocade fabric used for the obi belt. For both figures and Japanese dolls, the face is vital, and Sakura’s has been captured with clear white skin, large eyes, and a big smile. Her hair flows beautifully, and even the unruly strands sticking up from the top of her head have been captured. F:NEX, a purveyor of high quality hobby goods, has combined its planning and modeling skills with the traditional techniques of Yoshitoku, a long-standing doll maker established in 1711, to bring to the world a series of Japanese dolls aimed at bringing a new twist to traditional Japanese aesthetics. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Cardcaptor Sakura TV anime comes a Japanese doll of protagonist Sakura Kinomoto based on the cover artwork to the May 2020 issue of the monthly shojo manga magazine Nakayoshi. The doll expresses Sakura’s charm through her peering gaze as she looks our way holding a branch of cherry blossoms in her hand, and through her kimono delicately colored with a blue base tone that incorporates light pink and an abundance of cherry blossoms. The obi belt is also decorated with gold accents and features cherry blossoms on the obi knot for a “sunny day” look. The fabric is dyed at a yuzen factory in Kyoto, and each kimono is created and fitted to the doll individually by hand by Yoshitoku. In addition, the obi decorations were created using the delicate tsumami-zaiko style that can only be reproduced by hand.
